Anaheim City Councilwoman Kris Murray today announced her bid to represent the residents of the Third District on the Orange County Board of Supervisors with a commitment to safe communities, a strong economy and smart government.

Murray, who has served on the Anaheim City Council since 2010, is seeking to succeed outgoing Supervisor Todd Spitzer, who has represented the Third District since 2012 and is termed out in 2020.

“For nearly a decade, I’ve had the honor of representing Orange County’s largest city,  where I’ve worked hard to strengthen public safety, grow jobs, balance budgets, reduce pension liabilities and protect taxpayers,” Murray said. “I am passionate about issues facing our cities and county because this is where I live, work and raise my family. I will bring the same dedication and commitment to the residents, families and businesses of the Third District.”

Projects include the recent expansion of the Anaheim Convention Center, ensuring its place as the largest convention center on the West Coast, multiple four-diamond hotels and the largest expansion of the Disneyland Resort in two decades with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, opening in 2019.

Murray’s leadership helped create thousands of skilled jobs in Anaheim and will generate hundreds of millions in new city and county revenue – supporting quality of life services for residents and keeping local taxes and fees low.

As a mom and community member, Murray understands the importance of strong neighborhoods. In Anaheim, she has supported groundbreaking efforts to address homelessness, rapid graffiti removal, restoring library hours, repaving streets and adding parks and community centers to serve children and families.

In Anaheim, Murray led the hiring of 40 additional police officers in four years to restore patrol levels to where they were before the Great Recession. She has also help put more than a dozen firefighters back in stations to reduce emergency response times.

“These are issues that hit home for families and neighborhoods,” Murray said. “I will bring that same focus to the Board of Supervisors by protecting families, growing our economy and expanding transportation. These initiatives will benefit residents today and ensure that our kids are able to live, work and thrive in Orange County.”

A strong supporter of Orange County’s nonprofit community, Murray has served foster kids and families as a community board member of Seneca OC. She also supports the Boys & Girls Clubs of Anaheim, Anaheim YMCA, Cops4Kids, Orange County Family Justice Center, Anaheim Beautiful, and many others helping to make our community better. She was also recently appointed to the California Women’s Leadership Association Board of Directors.

Murray and her husband Steve love their community and chose to raise their family in Orange County. They live in Anaheim Hills with their son Garrett and their two rescue dogs, Bailey and Copper. They spend family time volunteering at Boy Scouts, Little League, Anaheim Hills Community Council and at school activities
