Annual Ready, Set, Go! Block Party to Highlight Wildfire Preparation

Learn how to protect your family and property on Saturday, October 17

ANAHEIM, Calif. (October 9, 2015) – Wildfires are one of the most unpredictable and dangerous fires that one may ever encounter. That’s why Anaheim Fire & Rescue encourages residents to be prepared in the event of a fire with Ready, Set, Go! – a community risk reduction program designed to help residents better understand the elements related to a wildfire and how to increase property protection.

“Anaheim Fire & Rescue trains hard to prepare for the event of a wildfire, and this event gives the residents the steps needed to prepare themselves and their families,” said Fire Chief Randy R. Bruegman. “Every effort that our residents take to get their property ready creates a greater defense against wildfires.”

With fire season a year-round reality and California’s current drought conditions, Anaheim residents are encouraged more than ever to be prepared in the event of a wildfire. The annual Ready, Set, Go! Block Party will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17 at Anaheim Fire Station No. 10 located at 8270 E. Monte Vista Drive. Additional parking is available along the street.

Guests will experience a variety of interactive activities and displays including wildland fire risk assessments and safety products for home and property. In partnership with Brookfield Residential, the Fire Safe Demonstration House will be officially opened for residents to learn how to harden your home against a fire. The Anaheim Police Department will be on hand with their helicopter and mounted equestrian unit highlighting how the two departments work together during a major incident. Throughout the event, guests will have the opportunity to speak with fire personnel on all aspects of fire prevention and disaster preparedness.

“Many residents have built their homes and landscaped without fully understanding the impact that can be caused by wildfire,” said Fire Marshal Jeff Lutz. “Anaheim Fire & Rescue is counting on our residents to know how to READY their property, SET plans for home survival and evacuation if needed, and be able to GO early during a wildfire.”

Representatives from the U.S. Forest Service and CAL FIRE (pending availability) will also be on hand to demonstrate how fire agencies work together to the benefit of the community in the event of a wildland fire. Guests will have the opportunity to meet firefighters and view fire apparatus including the Department’s latest Type 3 engines used to combat wildfires.
