Council Snuffs Out Proposed Ban on Smoking In City Parks

The Anaheim City Council last night rejected a ban on smoking in city parks, proposed by Councilman James Vanderbilt on behalf of a group of West Anaheim residents.

The vote was 4-1 against, with Vanderbilt casting the lone “yes” vote.

Both Mayor Tom Tait and Mayor Pro Tem Lucille Kring registered strong opposition to the proposed ban, with Tait characterizing it as a “Nanny State” intrusion into how people conduct their lives.

A small victory for freedom, but a victory nonetheless.
