The Disneyland Resort has announced the opening day of its wildly anticipated new land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, will be May 31 of this year.
At 14-acres, the new theme land will be the Disneyland Resort’s biggest ever, and a fully immersive experience in which guests are subsumed into the Star Wars universe. Guests will be able “to live their own Star Wars adventures in Black Spire Outpost, a village on the remote planet of Batuu.”
The May 31 is actually the opening of phase one of Galaxy’s Edge. Disney states it is debuting the new expansion land early due to “high guest interest in experiencing this new, immersive land.”
“On opening day for phase one, you’ll be able to live your own Star Wars story and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, sample amazing galactic food and beverages, explore an intriguing collection of merchant shops and more,” according to a Disney news release.
The new expansion park is described as a “choose your own adventure,” with each choice potentially impacting guests’ visit.
Among the “amazing galactic food and beverages” guests can sample: Blue Milk or Bantha milk from “Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope” and Green Milk from “Star Wars: Episode VII — The Last Jedi.” Other specialty concoctions: the Dagobah Slug Slinger and the T-16 Skyhopper on the menu at Oga’s Cantina. Some of Oga’s Cantina beverages will contain alcohol.
In order to efficiently manage the expected swarm of visitors and make the immersive Galaxy’s Edge experience as enjoyable as possible, the Disneyland Resort is implementing a reservation system in order to access the new land during the opening weeks between May 31 and June 23, 2019. The reservation system will be free and subject to availability. Guests staying at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their stay (one reservation per registered guest); valid theme park admission is required. Furthermore, Disney Fastpass service will initially not be available Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. We will continually evaluate our operations and services in order to help provide a great guest experience.
