The House Democratic Caucus today voted 203-32 to nominate polarizing Rep. Nancy Pelosi to be the next Speaker of the House.
Among the newly-elected Democrat House members from Orange County, only Gil Cisneros of CA-39 opposed Pelosi. Harley Rouda (CA-48) – who during the campaign dodged the question of whether he’d support Pelosi – signed a letter of support for the veteran San Francisco liberal lawmaker. Representatives-elect Katie Porter (CA-45) and Mike Levin (CA-49) also supported Pelosi for House Speaker.
Rep. Lou Correa (CA-46), just re-elected to a second term and now the dean of the OC congressional delegation, voted for Pelosi.
“The people of the 39th District made it clear, however, that they want to see real change in Washington, and I intend to follow through on my commitment to support new leadership,” said Cisneros in a prepared statement.
The ever-restless denizens of the Democratic Left expressed their displeasure with Cisneros:
We don’t have @DanaRohrabacher to be mad at anymore. It’s not a niche we want filled.
