UPDATED: AUHSD Board Poised To Hire Left-Wing Political Activist As “Social Media Consultant”

UPDATE – September 14, 2018: District staff pulled the item pertaining to contracting with Cynthia Liu and the K-12 News Network from the agenda before AUSHD Board meeting began.

The politicization of the Anaheim Union High School District continues apace, as the AUSHD Board tonight will consider using public funds to contracts with a stridently progressive “student news” outfit as a social media consultant.

Item 11.16 is a $20,000 “educational services” contract with Cynthia Liu and her “K-12 News Network” to “assist the district in the development of a comprehensive social media strategy” to “incorporate new groups” with district communications strategies. The staff report describes Liu’s K-12 News Network as “a grassroots education news and civic engagement business” – a description that makes euphemism seem euphemistic.

A quick glance at its Facebook page makes it screamingly clear what the K-12 News Network does is engaged in strident progressive political advocacy.

Here’s an anti-Judge Kavanaugh post from this morning:

Here’s a post from two hours ago endorsing a slate of candidates in the New York state elections:

Can we expect a similar post urging AUHSD voters to support candidates who “champion public education” – i.e. Board President Al Jabbar and his endorsed candidates?

Here’s a K-12 News Network post from last year, trumpeting democratic socialist Bernie Sanders endorsement of teachers union candidate Steve Zimmer for the LAUSD Board of Education:

Anti-charter school propaganda is a staple the K-12 News Network’s social media. Here’s one from yesterday, regurgitating the standard teachers union narrative about evil “corporate charters schools”:

It goes on like this in post after post on K12 News Network social media – one stridently leftist message after another, a nonstop spasm of progressive groupthink.

It’s more of the same on owner Cynthia Liu’s own Facebook page. Here’s one of a number of anti-charter school posts:

Note the hashtag #CharterSchoolsAreNotPublicSchos. At least they teach correct spelling at charter schools.

Here’s one from last week complaining how the State and county boards of education can hear appeals from charter school applications who have been denied by (primarily) union-dominated local school boards:

Liu’s progressive crusade against Judge Brett Kavanaugh isn’t confined to K-12 News Network social media. Here, Liu not only opposes his SCOTUS nomination, but calls for his impeachment from the bench:

Here’s one from June 2018 supporting the abolition of ICE:

Here, Liu gushes about wanting to make Colin Kaepernick the King of America:

Here’s a petty, incomprehensible rant about “white supremacy,” cultural appropriation and other SJW buzzwords:

There are innumerable reputable social media consultants out there, and AUSHD Mike Matsuda selects a hyper-political activist who shares his progressive political agenda – including making AUSHD hround zero for anti-charter school “resistance” in Orange County. Given Matsuda’s track record of infusing his progressive politics into the AUSHD bloodstream, only a fool could believe the aggressively left-wing politics of Liu and her K-12 News Network will be firewalled from the impressionable students in their charge.

If the AUSHD Board has any sense or independence, they’d reject this contract and direct their superintendent to issue a competitive RFP, with publicly stated criterion, for a professional social media firm.  But this is a situation in which the tail wags the dog, so expect the AUHSD Board to dutifully rubber stamp Mastuda’s choice.

The Board meeting is this evening at 6:00 p.m. at district headquarters, 501 N. Crescent Way in Anaheim. You’ll have to attend in person if you want to see and hear staff present this item and listen to any Board member question – in case they actually have any. You won’t the option of watching streaming video of the Board meeting since AUHSD is very untransparent and opposed to civic engagement when it comes to making Board deliberations accessible to the public. Mastuda will hand out a $20,000 contract to a political crony, but the district can’t spend some spare change putting an iPhone on a tripod and broadcasting the meeting on FacebookLive.

  1. My Heart is Anaheim

It is heartbraking to see all of the radical decisions made wasting our tax payers money. I am concerned about the future of our Anaheim schools under the direction of Mike Matsuda! We need to make changes for the sake of our childrens education. Matsuda is unfit to lead Anaheim Union High School District! Al jabbar only cares about his personal benefit and does not care of the future of our childrens education!!!!!!!! Jabbar is no good to represent us at the school board. November 6 make sure you vote for the best interest of our children!!!!!
    VOTE NO AL JABBAR
    VOTE NO JOSE F. MORENO
    VOTE NO RYAN RUELAS
VOTE NO ANNE MARIE RANDLE TREJO
    VOTE NO AITKEN

Anaheim is in danger with these individuals. Also, please know that the following names mentioned are all frienda of Jose F. Moreno and support his agenda.
Robert Saldivar, Principal of Anaheim High School. He is also a disciple of Matsuda and Jose F. Moreno!!!!! Let’s take back Anaheim Union High School, Anaheim Elementary School District and the City of Anaheim. Our children’s future is in danger in the hands of Ruelas, Matsuda, Al Jabbar, Jose F. Moreno, Anne Marie Trejo, J. Paolo Magcalas, Lorena Moreno(Principal at Dale Jr. High) and Manuel Colon, Jose Lara, Araceli Chavez(Parent Involvement Specialist at AUHSD)! Araceli Chavez supports Jose F. Moreno and Al Jabbar. She advices parents on their beliefs and promotes their agenda. Our Anaheim youth deserve to have the best education possible!!!!! Let’s protect the future of aanheim!!!!!! Please consider not voting for the following individuals.
    VOTE NO AL JABBAR
    VOTE NO JOSE F. MORENO
    VOTE NO RYAN RUELAS
VOTE NO ANNE MARIE RANDLE TREJO
    VOTE NO AITKEN

Matsuda you should be ashamed of all the things you are doing at AUHSD, misusing our hard working tax payers money!!!!!!

  2. My Heart is Anaheim: I TOTALLY agree. Anaheim is at a dangerous crossroads and the next election is crucial.

We need to consider that in each election we may not agree with any candidate and should not then choose a candidate by party. Example: You may not be a Republican. yet not agree with the ideology of the Democratic candidate, but then vote for the candidate of the party you don’t agree with because you both identify with.

Case in point: Jose Moreno says he is a Democrat but his actions say he is a Socialist as are many of his associates.

    VOTE NO AL JABBAR
    VOTE NO JOSE F. MORENO
    VOTE NO RYAN RUELAS
VOTE NO ANNE MARIE RANDLE TREJO
    VOTE NO AITKEN

We may be left with searching for who is the least damaging for the future of Anaheim and its residents.

Really look into the candidate that you are going to give your vote to. Research their policies, who they campaign with, who they associate with and look at their social media as well as their statements etc. Look at and research for yourself all articles posted here on this site, especially the Jose Lara expose, then see who he associates with, then consider who you are giving your vote to.

ANAHEIM WAKE UP! Talk to each other about this pivotal election. Those listed above are trying to take over Anaheim and we must stop them with our votes. They have proven they do not have Anaheim and its residents’ best interest at heart. Our schools are failing, yet they ask us to vote for them and their leadership skills. Our city has never looked worse, yet they ask us to vote for them and their leadership skill. Our city’s homeless issue remains unsolved . This groups plan was to keep them on the riverbed and allow them to sleep in our parks. Yet, they ask us to vote for them and their leadership skills. They are so arrogant that they pick a fight with our city’s largest employer, thinking they can force them to into higher wages to the point of being considered a hostile business climate. Yet, they ask us to vote for them and their leadership skills. Some use our money to fight to uphold failing school scores and fight to continue failing our children, yet, they ask us to vote for them and their leadership skills………..

Please consider not voting for the following individuals.
    VOTE NO AL JABBAR
    VOTE NO JOSE F. MORENO
    VOTE NO RYAN RUELAS
VOTE NO ANNE MARIE RANDLE TREJO
    VOTE NO AITKEN

  3. Clarification On: You may not be a Republican. yet not agree with the ideology of the Democratic candidate, but then vote for the candidate of the party you don’t agree with because you both identify with.

You may not be a Republican, yet not agree with the ideology of the Democratic candidate, but then vote by party and vote Democratic anyway.

Jose Moreno is labeled as a Democrat but his actions and associations are Socialist.

Consider voting for who is best for the City of Anaheim’s future even if it means crossing party lines, especially because they may be labeled.

  4. VOTE YES AL JABBAR!
    VOTE YES JOSE F. MORENO!
    VOTE YES RYAN RUELAS!
VOTE YES ANNE MARIE RANDLE TREJO!
    VOTE YES AITKEN!

They’re changing Anaheim for the better and clearly the individuals don’t have a clue about our education system.

  5. Dear John G,

They are certainly changing Anaheim. But I am curious how you can quantify for the better? In every measure I see the AUHSD going down the tubes. Test scores are now lower than Santa Ana, student , parent and staff sureveys show great dissatisfaction. The schools that are in acute free fall are the ones that Matsuda forced out popular principals that he considered threats to his power. Anaheim High, JF Kennedy High, Magnolia and Loara are an absolute mess led by incompetent leaders. I withdrew from ASTA because our union is worthless and rubber stamps everything at direction of a dishonest insider by the name of Ryan Rueles. Charter Schools are not taking students but as the Oc register showed last summer, families are leaving by the hundreds to neighboring public high schools.

  6. NoMoASTA: Well said. Each time someone counters with backing these people we must ask for facts as to why. Just the facts and then we have our answer. Schools are failing, our neighborhoods have never looked worse. We can thank this current group for the river bed disaster and for trying to put them in our parks.

Moral is low in departments: schools, fire and police. City Hall has a high turn over rate because of the hostile environment.

Our residents are not happy with the way our city is run and with the representation running it.

What do we need to change things= NEW LEADERSHIP AND OUST THIS ENTIRE MOVEMENT.

Do not let them further entrench themselves into our lives affecting our future, our children’s future
and the future of our city.

I cant believe that anyone would vote for individuals who stand up and speak of all the wonderful things they have done for us and how we should vote for them again. In reality they have failed us giving us failing schools, with failing scores … they are failing children while drawing a salary given to enrich them.

They want us to continue to give them a salary for their BAD work. Do they think our residents are that stupid/gullible? If we give them our votes we sadly to say are. I BELIEVE WE ARE NOT.

We must educate ourselves on who we give our vote to and why are we giving that individual our precious voting along with its power? What has that person done in the past? What have they promised and what was delivered. Did they keep their promises? Who are they connected too? Who do they campaign for?

It is time to stand up Anaheim and change direction before we are fully lost to this groups movement.

    Please consider not voting for:

    VOTE NO AL JABBAR
    VOTE NO JOSE F. MORENO
    VOTE NO RYAN RUELAS
VOTE NO ANNE MARIE RANDLE TREJO
    VOTE NO AITKEN
VOTE NO ON JUAN GABRIEL GONZALEZ

  7. CORRECTION: VOTE NO ON JUAN GABRIEL ALVAREZ

  8. Thanks for the update, keep the story out in front of Anaheim’s shady school board. Keep the heat on this group. Report all..Just the truth and nothing but…

  9. Gross, Jose Moreno’s group campaigning for one another touting all the good they have done for all people, simply disgusting. All people really? Good any of you have done, real good? What good for all people? They do not tell the real truth.

  10. Add another VOTE NO ON MARK LOPEZ for school board. Another part of the Moreno, Tait, Jabbar, Ruelas, Aitken, Trejo, Moreno, Lara, Magacals group

  11. We really need a police / district attorney investigation into the manipulation that the Moreno/Matsuda group is pulling off. Key concerns:
    1. Hiring family members and giving them generous raises. Mrs Moreno at Dale $150 k and Matsuda hiring son is a start.
    2. Diverting district money through Bros club to support chosen candidates who will not be trustees but they will be puppets.
    3. All too cabinent members have hired their wives for full time employment in AUHSD
    4. Trying to punish Jeff Cole who is an AUHSD teacher because he has voted independently.
Please pay attention if you are a voter:
Do not elect the following because they are puppets and will not be trustees:
    AUHSD: Jabbar and Trejo
    Aneheim Elementary: Rueles, Lopez, Alvarez
And city : Atkin and Moreno
