Josh Newman Recall: OC Democratic Party Official On Video Harassing Gay Republican Volunteer

Video has surfaced of Orange County Democratic Party Vice Chair Jeff LeTourneau verbally abusing a gay Republican gathering signatures to recall Democratic Sen. Josh Newman:

The incident took place in front of WalMart in Fullerton in the heart of the 29th Senate District, which Newman represents. LeTourneau, a long-time left-wing Democratic acivists notorious for his volcanic public outbursts, accused recall organizer Carl DeMaio, a gay Republican activist and former San Diego councilmean, of being a traitor to gays.

“Which one of you a**holes is the gay?,” LeTorneau says in the video. “You f—ing belong to a party that writes our destruction into its platform. How f—ing dare you be in this county. Get your s–t and get out of here. You are a f—ing disgrace to any gay person I know. Piece of sh-t.”

LeTourneau pressed up against the signature table, just a couple of feet from DeMaio, ranting and jabbing his finger while trying to prevent the man and his fellow volunteers from gathering signatures.

LeTourneau took photos of DeMaio and threaten to socially ostracize him:

“I’m gonna make sure everybody in the LGBTQ community knows.”

To which DeMaio replied, “They already know. I publish the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News. They know who I am.”

LeTourneau continued berating the man, barking that he was not authentically gay:

“You do not belong to our community. You also do not belong to the LGBTQ community either.”

A Democratic activist standing nearby came to LeTourneau’s defense, saying he didn’t blame LeTourneau for being angry.

“LeTourneau clearly thinks that if you are gay, you can only be a Democrat which is both arrogant and highly offensive,” DeMaio told the media. “The idea that Californians are sick of paying higher taxes cuts across party lines and sexual orientation.”

OC Daily reached out to OC Democratic Party Chair Fran Sdao for comment on whether this is appropriate behavior from a DPOC officer.

LeTourneau has a knack for courting controversy. Earlier this year, he came under fire to admitting, while addressing the Anaheim City Council, that he had illegally shipped medical marijuana across state lines. He cut his political teeth in ACT-UP’s confrontational, in-your-face school of political action.

The tragic shooting attack on the Republican congressional baseball team by ardent progressive activist James Hodgkinson, in which he severely wounded Rep. Steve Scalise and several other staffers and Capitol police officers, has sparked a national conversation about the toxic political environment created by extreme political rhetoric and actions. This is driven almost exclusively by  progressive-Left activists unable to cope with Donald Trump’s election and responding with over-the-top, over-heated rhetoric about fascism killing our Republic.

Given the apparent desire by political leaders on both sides of the aisle to lower the partisan temperature and pull our politics back from the brink, one has to wonder if it is time for the DPOC to retire LeTourneau’s extreme, attack-dog brand of activism.

  1. Longtime Anaheim Resident

This guy also regularly attacks gay democrats – he berated former Councilman Jordan Brandman all the time during council meetings and on blogs. He does more harm than good to the people he claims to represent.

  2. Aren’t we all tired of people shouting at us their gender choice in public. These people are ruining politics and the general welfare of humanity.

  3. Jeff needs to resign or the DPOC ought to remove him from office

  4. This guy is seriously unhinged. He has to be the biggest loser around to get this worked up over someone so inconsequential as Josh Newman.

Jeff has repeatedly shown poor judgement, be it bragging about his felonious drug activity, his double speak and silence on PROP 8 (He openly supported Howard Ahmansons effort to bash Brandmans sexuality and now this.

Maybe the good people of Anaheim can give Jeff a piece of his own advice: Go back tp your community!

    What a hypocrite.

  5. “A gay Republican volunteer?” I was feeling sorry for the poor little guy in the title. Read the story and it turns out it was DEMAIO HIMSELF. The ringleader of the whole thing. I suspect he can take a punch.

  6. Was Jeff LeTourneau trained in obstructionism by Greg Diamond?

  7. The “Democratic Party” also printed/sent a horrible mailer about the recall, the gas tax and Mr. DeMaio. Thank you for printing this article and bringing to light the thuggery which has been going on. The people have a right to rise up and speak their minds or change them. What the Democratic leaders in California are doing to California should be examined. Thank you Mr. DeMaio for your courage and for standing up for the people of California despite the desperate acts of those that oppose you. Thank you for leading the people to a better understanding of what will happen to us down the road if we allow these changes to take place. RECALL JOSH NEWMAN then STOP THE GAS TAX. We have been bamboozled and must say – We’re not going to take it anymore. Californians, talk to your families, your friends, your neighbors and everyone you come in contact with about this movement. Find out why it is happening and what it means if we allow the California Democratic leaders in power to continue. Rise up Californians we must save ourselves.

  8. Interesting how fiscal conservatives love spending taxpayers’ money on special elections if it means they can subvert the voice of the people and get their own way….

    • “subvert the voice of the people”

You mean like our Democrat overseers trying to re-write the recall rules in the middle of the game in order to secure the outcome they want? If you prefer living in a banana republic, try moving to Venezuela.

      • Hey Matt, you had no problem supporting conservatives when they manipulated the process to ensure a desired outcome. You called those actions “thougthful.”

I still have your comments saved if you would like me to post them or send them to you.

    • I guess you call being sick of tax dollars going to cow fart bills and high speed rails, bullet trains etc., “fiscally conservative.” You spend your money on containing cow farts but don’t expect us all to want to. Do you call paying taxes to fix roads that don’t get fixed and then being forced to pay taxes again on the same issue fiscally conservative? I call it sick and tired smart! Subvert the voice of the people? The people are rising up, after our state has become a laughingstock, and saying enough.

  9. Jeff needs anger management. Maybe he can get a family discount.

  10. The MarshallPlan

Why is it so dag gum hard for Democrats to have a backbone and stand up to disgusting individuals like this is their own party. It’s real easy to rail against your opponents but true character is shown when you have the same reaction to one you known and/or agree with. It is not limited just to this incident but regarding this. Just say that while you are against the recall you are disgusted with and in no way in agreement with what Jeff LeTourneau said or his actions. Heck it doesn’t even have to be sincere, just b.s. but at least say it, yet Democrats can’t even do that. Instead we get not only defense of said individuals and their actions, but attacking the victim in it.

Democrats, it’s called INTEGRITY. Go pick some up.

  11. In the video you get a real example of the true bully, the “Democratic” Party. But, as you watch it totally backfires and seeing one being bullied remaining calm but not backing down, it actually attachs petition signers. Keep going Mr. DeMaio and thank you.

  12. Newman’s workers are passing out anti-recall info outside of his district.

  13. The pro recall group dispatched thirty petition signers in Eagle Hills/Country Hills and Olinda Ranch/ La Floresta in Jeff’s BREA yesterday.

Hitting Jeff in his own yard!

That ought to get his panties un abunch!
