Veterans Day Tribute in Anaheim on Wednesday, Nov. 11

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Nov. 10, 2015) Our nation’s veterans will be honored in a special ceremony hosted by the city of Anaheim on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and the entire community is invited to attend. The free event will take place at the Anaheim Veterans Plaza in downtown Anaheim, starting at 11 a.m.

The event, chaired by Mayor Pro Tem Lucille Kring, will include patriotic music, special guest speaker Col. Anthony M. Henderson of the 13th MEU, and a commemoration of the Marine Corps 240th birthday. Former KNX Radio Orange County Bureau chief and multi-award winner Mike Landa will serve as the event emcee.

“Our nation’s veterans are true heroes, and they deserve our respect,” said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. “All the freedoms we enjoy are due to the brave men and women who served our country. We appreciate them, as well as those who are currently serving our nation, for the freedoms we enjoy each day. Veterans Day is a day where we can all take a moment to stand alongside our veterans and to shake their hands and say thank you.”

“It is an honor to recognize our country’s veterans, and I encourage Anaheim residents to come out on Nov. 11 to show support for the brave men and women who are directly responsible for the freedoms we enjoy today,” Kring said. “All of us know someone who served or is currently serving in the military. They need our support, and we need them to know how much we love and appreciate them. I am proud of all the city of Anaheim does to support veterans and active service members.”

Honoring veterans on Nov. 11 was first proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson in November 1919 upon the conclusion of World War I. The commemoration initially was known as Armistice Day. The original concept was for a day observed with parades, public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11 a.m. In 1954, Nov. 11 became known as Veterans Day to honor American veterans of all wars.

The Anaheim Veterans Plaza is at the corner of Anaheim Boulevard and Broadway, next to the Muzeo. Parking for the event is available in the parking structure behind Anaheim City Hall (200 S. Anaheim Blvd.), or on Center Street.

The city of Anaheim is proud of its commitment to supporting its veterans as well as active military members. Anaheim’s Veterans Resource Center is available online at and offers information on City resources, the Military Banner program, the Veterans Memorial Burial Flag Flying Program, the city-adopted 13th MEU, and more.
